How a hand works
Your aim is to get closer to 21 than the dealer without exceeding 21. You bet against the dealer, not against the other players at the table.
Number cards are worth their face value. Jacks, queens and kings are worth 10 each. An ace counts as 11 unless that would take your hand over 21, in which case it counts as 1. An ace and a ten-value card as your first two cards make a natural blackjack.
A total of 21 with three or more cards is not a natural blackjack. In our Original, a winning natural blackjack pays 3:2 on your stake. If your hand exceeds 21, you lose. If the dealer busts and your hand is 21 or less, you win.
| Decision | What happens? |
|---|---|
| Hit | Take another card. If your hand goes over 21, you lose. |
| Stand | Keep your current hand. The dealer then completes their hand. |
| Double | Where available, double your stake and receive exactly one more card. |
| Split | Where permitted, split a pair into two hands. You'll need an additional stake for the second hand. |
The available decisions depend on the table rules. A tie is called a push. If you push, your stake is returned.
Our Original with Zero Edge
Our Blackjack Original is part of Duel Originals. You play digitally without a live dealer. With optimal strategy, the main game has a mathematical house edge of 0% and a theoretical RTP of 100%.
That doesn’t mean you get your stake back after every round. RTP describes the expected return across a very large number of hands. Even with optimal play, you can lose several hands in a row.
The Original also offers side bets. Side bets are settled separately from your blackjack hand, with their own winning combinations and payouts. The main game’s 100% RTP therefore does not automatically apply to side bets.

Your decisions shape the hand
The dealer’s upcard and your own cards help determine which move is mathematically best. Hands containing an ace can require a different approach from hands without one, even when their totals are the same.
An ace and a 6 make a soft 17: the ace still counts as 11. If you draw a 10, the ace changes to 1, leaving you on 17. A 10 and a 7, however, make a hard 17. Drawing another 10 would take you over 21 and you would lose.
Poor decisions lower your expected RTP. The right basic strategy takes the specific table rules into account, including the options to double and split. Winning or losing the previous hand doesn’t change which move makes sense for your current hand.
Increasing your stake does not improve your chances of winning. You can still lose money even when playing the correct strategy. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

Duel Blackjack FAQs
Are Blackjack Original and Beta the same game?
No. The Original is a digital Duel Original with Zero Edge when using optimal strategy. Beta is live blackjack with a dealer and its own table rules. The Original's RTP does not automatically apply to Beta.
Can I still lose money with 100% RTP?
Yes. A 100% RTP is a theoretical long-term figure with optimal strategy. Individual hands and entire sessions can still end in losses. Poor decisions lower the expected return further.
Does Zero Edge apply to side bets?
Zero Edge refers to the main game played with optimal strategy. Side bets have their own rules and payouts; you cannot infer their RTP from the main game's RTP.
Is every hand totalling 21 a blackjack?
No. A natural blackjack consists of an ace and a ten-value card as your first two cards. A total of 21 with three or more cards is an ordinary 21-point hand. In our Original, a winning natural blackjack pays 3:2.
What do Hit and Stand mean?
Hit means taking another card. Stand means keeping your current hand. If your total exceeds 21, you lose the round.
Where can I watch Duel videos and clips?
Our official Instagram account is @duelcom, where we post Duel videos and clips. For blackjack played live at the table, there's Duel Blackjack Beta.
Do I need an app to play blackjack on my phone?
No. You can open Duel in a mobile browser and sign in to your account. No separate app is required.
